What are the requirements for abandonment? I have a 4 month old son. The father has not been involved with the majority of the pregnancy or birth and is not on the birth certificate. I want sole custody and to possibly terminate the father's rights.

After one year of no contact and no payment of support you can file to terminate his rights for abandonment. If you are successful he will not have to pay support in the future, so be sure this is what you want.
