Adoption of Niece

More details to this question:
My wife and I have separated. We are both legal guardians of my niece's daughter whom was have raised together since she was 1 day old. Now that we are separating and contemplating divorce, I want to adopt my niece alone. Is this possible? My Niece has agree to sign over full custody to me.
