QUESTION

Alimony laws in Texas

Asked on May 01st, 2014 on Divorce - New Jersey
More details to this question:
My ex and I were divorced in NJ about a year and a half ago. He was ordered to pay $250.00 a week for life alimony since we were married 28 years and I am 63 years old. He recently moved to Texas with the intention of getting out of paying. Is there anything I can so about that? Without the alimony I am living on $600.00 per month social security.

I have seen your question. My name is David Salvaggio.  I head a law firm that devotes its practice exclusively to New Jersey Divorce and Family Law matters.  It's all we do. Please feel free to take a look at our Firm Website (www.salvaggiolaw.net), which contains a lot of helpful information. The short answer to your question is: Yes, there is something you can do.  You should be able to get a court in Texas to enforce your ex-husband's alimony obligation. If you want to give yourself the best chance, I believe that you will need a good lawyer in the area of Texas to which your ex-husband moved.   I would be happy to speak with you, go over your situation in more detail and give you guidance as to the best course of action.  That is what I call an Assessment.  It can be done over the phone or in person.  The cost is $425. You can call our offices at any time of the day or night if you want to schedule an Assessment. Our telephone number is 973-455-1220. My Personal Extension is 14. Please leave a voice mail message for me if I am not available to speak with you when you call.
