when I remarried 20 yrs ago my husband wanted to change my sons last name to his, we got consent of my ex, got a attorney, we wanted to make sure everything was done right, I ask if we needed to have the last name changed on the birth certificate he said no you only do that if there is a adoption but that we would have to change the last name on his social security card , never had any problems until recently he just moved to Louisiana he went to get his drivers License the for work purposes they ask to see his birth certificate and since the name is not the same as on his social security card they said he would have to show proof of the name change I live in Orlando, Florida which is were we had the name change done downtown at the courthouse here, my son called me to see if I could find the papers for the name change, its been over 20 years ago I havent been able to find it that is why I was wondering would it be in public records could we find it on line or at the court house
SInce you say the name change was over 20 years ago, the records are probably not on line. Further, family law records are confidential, and in many counties are not accessible on line (even to attorneys in some instances). You should contact the Clerk of Court in Orange County. The clerk would likely have to order to records from archives, but it can be done. You may have to go to the courthouse, but each county's procedures differ some, so calling the clerk is the best place to start. If you have the case numer that is even better.
Best of luck,
