My son and his wife just moved to North Carolina from Florida. Before they left, we had a dispute regarding money. Now the daughter-in-law informed me she is refusing my husband and I visitation rights to the grandchildren. Ages 10 and 5. We have developed close relationships with the grandchildren. In fact, my husband watched the 10 year old for 5 years, and the 5 year old for the first 6 months of his life. The children have spent the night many times.
In FL the grandparents have no independent right to see the grandchildren or demand "visitation" in Court. I would check with a NC attorney to see if the laws maybe different from FL.
Best of Luck,
