Asked on Jul 27th, 2013 on Family Law - Rhode Island
More details to this question:
I received my older brothers used laptop for my birthday as a birthday present and ever since I broke his car, he's been nagging me to return the laptop. He is 22 years and I am a 16 year old minor. Will he have the advantages in court because he is an adult?

Good heavens, you wrecked his car and won't give an old laptop back to him as partial compensation? Legally, he cannot force you to return a gift. But the right thing to do here is clear: he wrecked his car and caused him to incur a loss and probably some expense to get the car fixed or replaced. If getting back the laptop will give you a credit of 200 bucks or so against the costs, you'd be a fool not to cooperate with someone in whose debt you now find yourself.
