Can an attorney make offensive comment

More details to this question:
Recently at a child support hearing, my ex husband attorney made a comment to the judge that our son college major "Biblical studies" is valueless. The judge asked him to drop it. The comment was very offensive. Is this right

Sounds like the attorney was somehow trying to underscore that the child is not involved in a meaningful activity despite it leading to a college degree. Attorneys are supposed to zealously represent our clients. Perhaps you found it offensive, but the judge is really the final arbitor in a situation like that. It sounds like the judge told him to drop that line of argument.
