Can i get physical placement of my son if his mother no longer has permanent housing and i do?

More details to this question:
My boyfriend has joint custody of his son and he is in our care every other week. Recently we found out his mother was locked out of her home and they were left with just the closed on there backs. They were staying with a friend until the end of the month then after that she stated to the boy she may need to live in her car. She now tells us they again have temporary housing with a friend starting in August. We have a house and a stable environment. Is this enough grounds for a court to change the placement orders?
The answer to your question maybe yes, if you can priove that things have deteriorated for the mother and is basically homeless; if she is staying with friends or family, even if she doesn't have her own place, the answer changes to probably no.
