Nj Changed their laws concerning alimony but stated in the new bill "This act shall take effect immediately and shall not be construed either to modify the duration of alimony ordered or agreed upon or other specifically bargained for contractual provisions that have been incorporated into: a) a final judgment of divorce or dissolution; b) a final order that has concluded post-judgment litigation; or c) any enforceable written agreement between the parties." We have done all three of these and this new Judge is trying to make a name for himself and terminated my 1K alimony while my exhusband probably has 500K in savings as he only disclosed 1 and left his money market and 401 as he hasn't checked it in a while. I have seen your question.
My name is David Salvaggio. I have more than 35 years of legal experience and head a law firm that devotes its practice exclusively to New Jersey Divorce and Family Law matters.
Please feel free to take a look at our Firm Website (www.salvaggiolaw.com) for further information about my firm.
The answer to your question is: Under certain circumstances, lifetime alimony can be terminated. However, each situation is different and a good lawyer will need to know a lot more information in order to give you the proper guidance in your situation.
I would be happy to meet with you and do what we call an Assessment. IN that Assessment, I will take the time to go over all of the facts with you, look at your court documents, and provide you with that guidance. The cost is $425. Given not only the alimony issue but also the other issues which you raise, I believe that it is likely to be a good investment.
Your question does not specify the town in which you live. My firm's offices are located in Morristown, NJ (Morris County). We handle cases in all of the counties in northern and central New Jersey, including not only Morris County but also Somerset, Hunterdon, Sussex, Warren, Passaic, Bergen, Hudson, Middlesex and Monmouth counties.
If you live in one of those counties and wish to schedule the Assessment, please call my office (973-455-1220) and speak to the firm’s Client Intake Coordinator Dara Vanderhoof. She will be able to arrange a mutually convenient date and time for the Assessment.
