Hello my grandmother wants to know what steps can she take to get custody of her grandson. The child's mother is mentally ill and not able to take care of him. My grandmother has raised him since birth and did not try to get custody.

Your grandmother would need to file for a Guardianship of the child. Both biological parents would need to be served. If either parent (or both) contest then there would be a hearing and the judge would decide as to what is in the best interest of the child.
