I have power of attorney over 17 yr old grandson who lives with me. Mother lives out of state, father is in prison. Mother signed custody over so that grandson can finish last year of high school without paying out of state tuition. Father won't sign so grandson is going to miss last year of high school. He is a straight A student who has not seen his father in 2-3 years. Father will not be out of prison until after grandson is 18. How difficult would it be to terminate father's parental rights?
Extremely difficult.
You need to get with an experienced family law attorney to see about being appointed the guardian of the child, which does require a court case.
