QUESTION

Child Support

Asked on Dec 16th, 2021 on Child Support - Texas
More details to this question:
So My Ex Wife from 26 years ago in 2017 filed online with the state of Texas that I never paid child support. We had an oral agreement that I would pay her outside of Child Support Division because she was collecting benefits. So now the state is charging me a principle balance of 9800 and 40k in interest. So my questions are 1 can i do a payment arrangement with them. 2. How can they charge interest its not like i took a loan out. 3. Can I fight the interest charge. I can prove I paid since this was from 1995 to 2007 and i don't even remember what bank I used.

The Attorney General of Texas has a form you and your wife can complete that indicates direct payments of child support. This is the link for the form: https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/sites/default/files/files/child-support/forms/direct-payment.pdf Fill out the form and send it in as indicated. This will allow the Attorney General to correct the child support amount due.
