Nevada child support law now has a "support follows the child" provision, but you really do not provide enough details to see what is going on -- is the son on his own?  Being taken of by others?  Still supported by mom but at a different location?  Support goes through the age 18, or up to age 19 if a child is still in high school, so you have a cost/benefit analysis to do regarding support for 7 months.  A good first step would be direct communication/negotiation with the mom.  For background, see http://willicklawgroup.com/child-support/.
