Consequences for not obeying visitation court order?

the mother did not let us bring my step son because he had an appt scheduled in our visitation period

If your court ordered visitation schedule is clear this sort of behavior may be a contempt of court. If this is a regular occurrence you should go to mediation and work out a new order to avoid it. Did you offer to take him to his appointment? Peace between parents gets the best results.
