More details to this question:
My mother passed away and has property in California. Three years ago she put my name on all of her bank accounts and the deed to the property. Does it still need to go through probate? Can I transfer the property to my sister.
Ask a California lawyer. Even if CA has inheritance/death tax, since the transfer was 3 years ago, you probably owe no tax. You may want to file income taxes on behalf of her estate. If you own the property, you can transfer to your sister.
