Thank you for your question. Every divorce is different and divorce costs vary based on the issues present in the divorce and whether or not you will need to go to court or can settle out of court. The best way to understand how much your divorce will cost is to consider the level of conflict present and the number of contested issues. Are you and your spouse on reasonable enough terms that you could work through your issues out of court? Are you already in agreement over issues such as what will happen to the house and custody of your kids? If yes, then costs can generally be minimized. The best way to estimate the costs of your divorce is to meet with an attorney who can go over your case and give you an estimate of what to expect. I hope this information was helpful to you.

Every divorce is different and simply because parties may have more money or more assets does not mean that their divorce will cost them more - it has to do with the issues outstanding and the degree of disagreement between the parties as to how to resolve those issues. Family Law specialists work on an hourly basis for their services and the cost of the divorce is dependent on how many hours are involved with trying to resolve the issues outstanding and whether an agreement can be worked out or whether litigation is needed to resolve those issues. If litigation is needed, then the costs will be significantly greater. If the issues are relatively simple and straight forward and you and your partner are in agreement as to how to resolve those issues, then the role of the lawyer is simply to flesh out the terms into a formal document, the cost is dramatically less. My suggestion is to sit with your partner and try to discuss the issues outstanding and see if you and he are close on how to address the issues. Or meet with a family law attorney to get a better understanding of what is a fair resolution of the issues outstanding and then talk with your spouse about the terms.
