QUESTION

Divorce in SC

Asked on Dec 18th, 2015 on Divorce - South Carolina
More details to this question:
My husband and I have been separated for 3.5 yrs and he has decided to finally finalize our divorce. He contacted me about 2 weeks ago and informed me that he had been to a lawyer and there were some papers I needed to fill out. I told him to have them mailed to me and I would look them over. He called me the next day and asked me to meet him to get the papers from him. All he gave me was paperwork asking for my financial information and said I needed to include a check stub. There was no lawyer information filled out nor was the plaintiff/defendant information filled out. He said that I could just fill them out, put them in an envelope and give them back to him to give to his lawyer. I have not filled them out and I have not contacted him since this. He has texted me several times and continues to call me wanting the papers. I feel like he is trying to hide something and this is not legitimate. Can someone please advise me if I should contact a lawyer of my own?

My advise is to hire you own family law attorney as soon as possile, and sign nothing without your own lawyer's approval. Dr. Michael G. Sribnick, Esq.  criminal defense lawyer in Charleston, S.C. Michael G. Sribnick, M.D., J.D., LLC
