I was in the military until Sep 30, 2013. I was a GA resident(entire life) living on military orders in VA (3 years). I moved to NJ. My wife picked up and left me March 15th, at 9 yrs, 6 mo ( she held on thinking she would get part of my medical retirement, Ooops!) while I was out of town at my Grandfather's funeral. The courts ordered her back to New Jersey, but we've only been here 7 months and NJ requires a year residency. GA and VA allow 6 months after you move to back-file. I'm stuck. I need to drop her before she sinks us in debt and destroys our lives. Where can I file?
You do need to wait a year for residency in New Jersey. Sometimes you can file ahead of the year, and indicate on the paperwork that you will be waiting until one year until you move forward. I'm not sure how she is going to sink you into debt. You can notify the credit reporting services of the separation and indicate that no further credit should be issued in your name, and send that request to them in writing.
