The mother of my daughter moved out of the county with her and I did not see my daughter for 7 months. During this time, I did not know her location and was unable to pay her child support because I did not know where she lived. She had my wages garnished and I still did not see my daughter. Once the court tracked her down I got a court date and instead of my normal visitation, my visitation rights were cut from every two days to every other weekend. My wages are still garnished and my daugther only sees her mother two to three days a week due to her job. I want her to have a more stable home environment with me.
Anytime you are fighting for your rights in court it is best to have a lawyer to represent you. A lawyer knows the rules of evidence and procedure in order to make the best presentation of your case and ensure that you are protected. You do not technically need a lawyer just to get a continuance, but if you do not file it or present it correctly, you may be denied. Even with a lawyer there is no guarantee.
