QUESTION

Filing for divorce

Asked on Nov 22nd, 2019 on Divorce - Utah
More details to this question:
I’m 65 and love in Utah and married 18 years. My spouse and I rent a basement from my son. I stay home and get $400 Retirement and my spouse supported us making $58k a year. He gave me no notice and left me and moved out of state. I can’t even have any funds to live on. I need to file for divorce ASAP but how do I do the paperwork online and bring to court house and then serve him out of state? Also, due to the fact he was paying our bills and left, can I get alimony while the divorce proceeds? So confused on how to get this done as soon as possible. I can collect survivor benefits on prior spouse once the divorce is final and not until so timing is everything. Please guide me.

Yes, things can be very confusing, particularly if you attempt to use the court's electronice system.   The best thing you can do is give a call, I offer a free 1/4 hour consultation, or $50 for 1/2 hour. You have many issues to consider, including alimony, retirement accounts and the like, as well as your spouse moving.   The best thing to do is get with an experienced and aggressive attorney. I know what these cases are like, having handled them before, with over 30 years experience here. Give a call Monday morning   David R. Hartwig 801-486-1715
