More details to this question:
My boyfriend and I are thinking of splitting up and we both want custody of our daughter and I think it will get nasty. He thinks because I have been a stay at home mom all of her life and have no income of my own that I will automatically lose. I know that it would be best for her to be with me but what should I do now to help my case should we get into a legal battle?
Child custody is based on the best interests of the child. The best interest of the child is based on several factors. Without having a better understanding of your situation it is very difficult to offer any advice. My suggestion is to have a consultation with a local attorney in order to understand the likely outcomes. Once you understand the various possibilities, you will be in a better position to make decisions.
