You cannot avoid child support. However, you don't have to file your taxes, but you can bring the W-2 and your last three paycheck stubs with you to court on Feb. 5. If you are on unemployment, bring proof of that. Fill out the court's financial statement form (it should have been given to you, but you can find it on the Family Court's website). Once you get to court, if you feel like you aren't ready or the mother has a lawyer, you can ask the court for more time to find a lawyer. The court might set a temporary amount until a hearing can be held, giving some more time for you to get your W-2 and provide financial information. Talk to a lawyer to help you get the best deal you can. Good luck!
