how do i get custody of my son if he is living in a unsafe environmemt?

how would i go about getting custody of my son if the mother is married and her husband is in a way abusing her (pushing and yelling at her in front of my son) i am the father and not on the birth certificate but we have agreed multiple times to have me put on there. she also has been taking pain pills that are not perscribed to her, what can i do about that? i do also have in text messages from her this stuff that has happened. i want to know what i can do about this and seek as much info as i can get in order to get custody of him.
