QUESTION

How do I prepare for a custody hearing?

Asked on Mar 21st, 2013 on Child Custody - Illinois
More details to this question:
We don`t agree on custody. My lawyer emailed me that the judge will listen to each of us and decide. I read on the internet that I should get prepared for it with my lawyer. I have send him questions asking if it will be on the date we have in April or we get other date, how does it look like, what the judge will possibly ask me, what can she ask my husband, how do I prepare for it. He did not answer my questions. I got the filling that the lawyer is trying to evade/omit trial. I really don`t want to spend next 10 years keeping contact with my ex on the phone or in person unless is an emergency. I think that I should get another lawyer with more experience (the one I hired has only 3 years of practice). It is very scary not to know what will be happening in my and my children life.

You definitely need to get prepared for the hearing. You should immediately schedule a consultation with a more experienced custody attorney. Your existing attorney may be fine, it's very common for attorneys to be overwhelmed with work, but you should get a second opinion.
