QUESTION

How do we get our divorce final judgement?

Asked on Mar 08th, 2016 on Divorce - California
More details to this question:
The original final judgement packet was received and the judged requested that my attorney do the final papers. I found out by doing the leg work on my own by going to the records room spending $40 to print out my entire case to find out the judge had granted the divorce. All he needed was the attorney to complete the final papers and she never did them. The reason I'm pushing for this is one myself and my still wife was under the impression that is was final and when I broke the news to her is was in just as much shock as I was seeing how much time has passed. The original start of this was in 2001. My still wife and I both had moved on and both had multiple new address so we never went looking for final papers because we figured thing were final and all we had to do was go to the courts and pick them up. That's how I found out. Back in mid-October, I headed to the court to obtain them. The biggest thing is I'm engaged to be married and the wedding is 75 days away. I went thru a service that help me gather all the docs to submit to the court myself and my wife got together and we both went over the paperwork that was given to us by the document preparer. We put the signatures on all the docs and all the papers were prepared and submitted to the courts. I did verified that the court received them on 12/23/ 2015 and all it states on the courts site under my case is 12/23/2015. Judgement packet received STIP Documents filed filing dated listed in descending order. My opinion for this going the way that it did is when I hired this attorney, I asked her how much this case would cost me. She stated if it went to trial, it would cost me around $700. We never made it that far because at the declaration of income and expense hiring in the hallway myself and wife agreed that we did not want to take this any further. We never owned any property or anything.

If your judgment package is already submitted and the site says its received, then you should contact the court to find out when it will be processed. The longest is usually 3 months but you have already passed that. You need to make sure that the court did not misplace your papers.
