QUESTION

How is Child support with no Court Order?

Asked on Dec 20th, 2012 on Child Custody - Maryland
More details to this question:
No child support was ever ordered since we did an unequal division of property. I started giving money for my child anyway knowing I had no obligation to do so. I recently became unemployed and told the other parent via email that I would be paying less for a while but would keep track of what is owed (based on what I was trying to pay - again all on my own without obligation). Now the other parent says we have a verbal contract and I owe them for the back support from when i was unemployed. They are threatening to sue me for it.

Without a court order or even a child support contract between you, she has no case for the court to enforce.
