My ex husband served me last week and now is stating that I will be served again?

He must be planning on sending you different papers. Perhaps it is just a request for discovery. Don't let him bully you with threats. Perhaps you should look into getting an attorney.

Sometimes divorce papers are amended and must be served again.

The only reason you should be served a second time is if the first service was not proper service. After proper service, you must file certain documents with the court. If you are a resident of IL and would like to discuss your case, you can contact our office for a free 30 minute consultation.

Although you only need to be served once with the Petition for Dissolution, there are a couple reasons for an additional service that I can think of: 1) he may have amended the petition (so he needs to serve the new one), or 2) he may have filed a request for temporary orders and he needs to serve you with notice of the hearing. If you've already been served, your clock is ticking to file a Response, so I recommend you consult with an attorney to discuss your case in greater detail.

He served you with divorce papers but you will probably be served with hearing papers and financial papers, and many other things during the pendency of the divorce. There is lots of paperwork involved.

You need be served only once with each document unless there was something wrong with how the service was done.

It is possible an amended petition has been filed with the court. It is possible an application for temporary orders has been filed. And it is possible that the first service was somehow defective and this is now being corrected.
