I WOULD LIKE JOINT CUSTODY

Asked on Dec 08th, 2014 on Family Law - Massachusetts
More details to this question:
I'm 21 yrs old with a 2 yrs old daughter that I want Joint Custody. She has my last name, but I'm not on the birth certificate and I didn't sign the birth certificate because of issues. I have a good, full time career job with FULL BENEFITS. I want to provide for my daughter but, Her mother WILL NOT EVEN ALLOW ME TO COVER MY DAUGHTER UNDER MY HEALTH INSURANCE, LIFE INS, TO MAKE MY DAUGHTER "BENEFICIARY" OF Everything,I need her social security number and SHE WILL NOT PROVIDE ME WITH HER SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. She has my daughter covered under MassHealth & Foodstamps... i WANT TO PROVIDE, SHE WILL NOT ALLOW so I WANT JOINT CUSTODY. Everything her and her mom provide for my daughter, me & my mom can provide as well. Food, clothing, shelter, daycare, health ins, life ins, dental, I Can provide all that! Lastly, this same girl is physically abusive and it is documented. I'm afraid she is slapping my daughter.

Because you did not sign the birth certificate, you will need to file a Petition to Establish Paternity.  If not already done, you may want to request a DNA test to confirm that you are the father as a Paternity Judgment is conclusive and cannot be changed if you discover later that someone else is the biological father.  In this proceeding, you can request joint custody and for an order child support and health insurance as well as raise concerns for the physical abuse.  If you have immediate concerns for your daughter's safety then there are other options available to protect her.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.  Many thanks.
