Is an unwitnessed, un-notarized letter legally binding?

More details to this question:
My divorce papers state my ex husband must pay me x amount for 6 years (division of assets). I signed a typed letter stating that he no longer has to pay me. It was not witnesses and not notarized. Is the letter legally binding?

If you signed it, then yes it can be binding.

It is difficult to tell from your recitation of the facts but the outcome would be in court. Generally if you sign a typewritten paper of your authorship with the intent to be bound it is your agreement and contract. This in this case, however, there is a court order and it may well be that you are not empowered to make the agreement.
