I am the second wife and the mother of my husband's third child. Every time I inquire, everyone says that I will get less because I filed last. I don't understand why child support is not divided evenly among the children in Illinois?

It's not necessarily true that you "will get less because you filed last".? The $ amount of child support is calculated separately for each child, based on a set formula, which a skilled family law attorney can calculate for you.? Such an attorney would need to discuss this matter with you in greater detail, & ask you many questions, in order to give you the complete, proper legal advice you need, plus a quote to represent you.

Because the children of the first relationship usually have the order entered first, and having more kids is not a basis for reduction in child support. The first kids are the first mortgage, which does not get lowered when a second mortgage is taken out.
