QUESTION

Is it possible to reverse an Acknowledgment of Paternity?

Asked on Jun 17th, 2015 on Family Law - Illinois
More details to this question:
I was tricked into signing an ack of Paternity for a child that is not mine over 11 years ago in Chicago. I have had DNA test to prove this, have gone to court twice. I have spent thousands of dollars in attorneys fees, my credited is ruined, I can't renew my driver's license and now owe $17K in child support. She is the one that broke the law by lying to me, yet I have to keep paying and seem to have no recourse?! What are my options to have this reversed?

Hello, Anonymous. This is going to be a VERY fact-specific case. It is generally very difficult to get paternity reversed unless there is another man who will be stepping up as the acknowledged father. Unfortunately, I can't answer much to this question right now without many more facts, largely due to the complexity of a case like this. The best I can tell you, I'm afraid, is to call an attorney in your area and discuss the case in detail with them to figure out your options.
