Is it legal for a spouse to close a checking acct without letting the other knowing about it?

Yes, it is legal for one party to close a joint checking account without telling the other. One party closing a checking account is disruptive to the other party; but not illegal.  Closing a joint account is often a signal that a marriage is in trouble. Start a conversation with your spouse about the marriage or get a consultation with an attorney right away.
