QUESTION

Jurisdiction Changes

Asked on Apr 03rd, 2013 on Child Custody - Georgia
More details to this question:
I was divorced in 2010 while stationed overseas with my children and since my husband and were both legal residents of Ohio at the time we chose to divorce there. The AF then transferred me to GA where my ex lives in May 2011. Last summer I began a medical evaluation board and let my ex know that if the AF decided I was unfit to continue duty that I would not stay in GA: I kept him up-to-date with what was going on and when the decision was given that I would be medically retired I began looking for work and a place to live. I was unable to find work in my home state so I began looking in other midwestern states and found work and affordable places in Wisconsin near where my boyfriend's family lives and much closer to my family than GA. I had 2 months left in the AF once they gave me their decision. Two weeks prior to my scheduled departure my ex had me served to change jurisdiction to GA and try to prove a change in circumstances. The kids are with him until the end of school in May

If you were residing [or simply present] in Georgia when served, then the Court does have jurisdiction over you.
