Married a man who was married to someone else at same time

More details to this question:
He was married in Virginia, we married in North Dakota, I was unaware he was still married at time we married. When I did find out I had already changed my name. What legal paperwork is needed to verify the marriage is invalid?

Cristin, Virginia would view his second marriage as void (e.g. that it never took place). He may have committed the criminal act of bigamy. You may want to check with an attorney in North Dakota about what steps, if any, you need to take to address your issue there.
