I am 24 years old. My biological father was never in my life because he left my mother pregnant at the age of 17 and never spoke to her again. My mother never ordered him to pay child support nor did she even let me know that he was out there somewhere because I was adopted by my stepfather who she married a year after giving birth to me. They went through a nasty divorce a few years ago and he paid child support until I turned 21. I ended up finding out about my real father in 2012 when I was 19. He also has two other kids by another woman and he is supporting them through child support. He refused to pay for my college expenses and never spoke to me again, but yet he is able to go on expensive trips and pamper himself. I wanted to know if it was possible for him to pay my college tuition.
When your stepfather adopted you, the parental rights of your biological father were terminated. He no longer has any rights or responsibilities with respect to you, nor do you with respect to him. For example, you cannot inherit from his estate based on being his daughter, although you can inherit from your stepfather. Given that you are 24, neither your stepfather nor any other parent of yours has any obligation to provide you with financial support.
