More details to this question:
we were marry for 11 years. 3 years ago, I moved out because he was cheating on me. Two years ago, my husband lost a job, he was fired because of his behavior and alcoholism. So far, he is collecting unemployment but is going to end in next two months. He told me that he is going to apply for alimony.
anyone can apply for alimony - but it doesn't mean he is going to get it. If someone is not employed, but could be, then the court usually imputes income to them. It also happens if you are "under employed". For example, you could not purposefully stop being a doctor, and go work in a fast food restaurant and then ask to have your alimony reduced. Your husband's income will be imputed to him as if he was working in a job similar to what he was working in, notwithstanding the fact that he got fired.
