QUESTION

Paternity

Asked on Dec 24th, 2021 on Child Custody - Oregon
More details to this question:
I have had family members from an ex girlfriend tell me that she had a child that I am the father of. I have reached out to her several times over the years to talk about this, the last interaction is had with her was roughly 3 years ago where she insisted I wasn't and provided a photo of the man she is claiming to be the father. Today Dec 24 2021 I just received a call from her mother trying to tell me that I am the father. There hasn't been any paternity establish and at this point feels like harassment, what are my options?

You can file an action for paternity in the court that has jurisdiction in your state, and serve your ex-girlfriend, and the court will order all three of you to undergo a DNA test to determine whether you are the biological father. If you are the biological father then you can ask the court for the rights to visit your child, or ask for custody or joint custody depending on the facts of your case. I would retain a family law Attorney in your state to process your case from start to finish.
