My children live with me due to instability in their mother's life. I have had them 8 months and the medical records I have been able to access have painted a picture of medical neglect. The mother has stated there are other records that she has from out of pocket visits but refused to provide the records or the name of the doctors. Do I have any right to that information and what if anything can I do about it. She has sole custodianship and I've been unable to get legal aid.
Even if the mother was appointed as sole managing conservatorship, you still have a right to see the medical records. If the mother is hiding them from you, you will have to try to seek the records by investigating throught he providers for the records you do have.
You can ask the attorney general or the domestic relations office to file for a change of status in your case since you've had the children for more than 6 months. You don't have to get a lawyer. The AG or DRO will file the suit and you can appear pro se. If you've been ordered to pay child support, you need to go through this process to get that changed and to get an order showing that you have the children now.
