I live in IL and been separated from my husband for a little over 7 years. I have filed for divorce once and been to the hearing with him. The judge required us to take a parenting class which he did not do. He then moved to VA without the divorce being complete. I still live in IL and he is in VA.
As you live in IL you can get divorced here. His failure to attend. a parenting class should not stop your divorce. If you have minor children he is supposed to attend a class,if the custody issue is not contested, then there are on-line classes he can take. Further I would doubt that a judge would stop your case because he refuses to take a class.
It is very do-able for you to get divorced, even though your husband lives in another state, I handle cases like this all the time (for 26 years). A skilled divorce attorney would need to discuss this matter with you in greater detail, & ask you many questions, in order to give you the complete, proper legal advice you need, plus a quote to represent you. Schedule a consultation ASAP. Once the case has been resolved to your satisfaction, you'll be glad you paid the money to hire an experienced attorney & properly protect your legal rights.
