QUESTION

What does Child Support ACTUALLY Cover?

Asked on Mar 03rd, 2014 on Child Support - California
More details to this question:
My ex refuses to split any extra curricular costs for our son (50/50) stating his child support covers that. Our child support was created when our son was 18 months old and not in any sports or school. My ex requires me to pay 50/50 for sports, etc. when HE signs our son up, but will not pay me a cent when I am the one who signs our son up for classes. Is this right?

Child support can change as the child gets older and other issues come into play.  There are many reasons to request a change to an existing order--some of them are a change in salary or work arrangement or a change in obligations such as extra-curricular activities.  There may be other reasons.  A change in child support usually requires the filing of a Request for Order in the family court. It would be wise to speak with an experienced family law attorney who can run a 'dissomaster' (software program to determine child support) based on your current needs.
