QUESTION

what should I plead

Asked on Nov 21st, 2014 on Domestic Violence - Virginia
More details to this question:
There was an incident between my wife and her father. We are seperated but by herself she doesnt make enough to support herself and our child. I don't want to plead guilty because I don't want to go to jail. And I don't want to plead innocent because I know it happened and I don't want to look bad. I don't want to loose my job by going to jail. I have a letter from my doctor saying my bipolar medicine wssnt working. And I would rather have community services, fines, or anger management. Anything but jail I need to help support my wife and child.

This is not the kind of question that should be answered on-line from just a brief question, because in any criminal case you need a lawyer representing you there in court and you should consult with that lawyer to determine how best to plead.  In many cases a plea arrangement can be worked out with the prosecutor, so that you will know ahead of time what it going to happen and you don't have to worry and wonder what you should plead.  If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, the court will appoint one for you.   This answer is given in accordance with the laws of Virginia and may not be applicable in any other state.  It should not be construed as legal advice, as that would require a more thorough analysis of all of the facts involved in a specific case.  If you need further information or assistance, please feel free to contact my office for a consultation. Case results depend upon a variety of factors unique to each case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any future case.
