QUESTION

When does my husband stop paying child support?

Asked on May 27th, 2012 on Child Custody - South Carolina
More details to this question:
My husband's son turned 18 in December and is a high school senior. He lives in South Carolina, while we live in Washington State and my husband is currently deployed to Afghanistan. We have been paying child support religiously on time over the years and though we were done, since he was suppose to graduate today. My husband planned his entire leave around this graduation and came home yesterday to attend his son's graduation today. As we were traveling to his graduation ceremony we received a phone call informing us that he is not graduating since he didn't have enough credits because he failed some of his classes. Now, my question is does my husband have to continue paying child support even though the child should have graduated today?

This would depend on what the Child Support Order from the family court stipulates if there is one. If there is not one or it is unclear then this could be contested. It would be better most often to work everything out between the parties without attorneys or the court being involved.
