QUESTION

When should I file for divorce to protect inheritance?

Asked on Aug 15th, 2017 on Divorce - Connecticut
More details to this question:
I live in an equitable division state. My mother died one year ago and the executor is selling some of her property and I plan on keeping one of her homes . There is also a cash account. None of this has been distributed nor is the house title in my name yet. However one house under contract for sale again I plan on trying to hang onto smaller one. Since she died a year ago and clearly I will be inheriting SOMETHING does it matter if I file now and before everything is settled ( executor plans on wrapping it all up mid September i.e. One month from now) so technically upon filing I don't own anything yet from her estate or will it not matter and I should not rush to file and instead carefully plan out my next step, moving out, hiring an attorney, etc. Sobin sumnayion will filing fast and now before I get anything make a difference in the grand scheme of things... or not and it will still be up for distribution regardless of when I file? Thank you. I live in Westport CT
