I would like to create a tabletop game (like Dungeons and Dragons) for use with my friends based on copyrighted materials from a series of video games. If I do not sell the finished product, would creating and using it with just a group of close friends, would it be copyright infringement?

Technically yes, but no one would know or care if this is not a commercial use.
