QUESTION

Bail bonds still looking for find after sentencing, can they do that?

Asked on Jan 15th, 2016 on General Practice - New Jersey
More details to this question:
I bailed out my ex-wife in June of 2015. Her bail was $50,000. We were making payments on $5,000, and now our balance is $620. She was on time with her payments. Until I started handling her payments for her. I don't want to get sued. She has been sentenced and is going to probation. Why is the bail company hard on us for the remaining amount for the bail? And with making payments to this company, my card was recently declined, but I have funds in my account. I suggested, that I can go to the office and pay. Their immediate response was, NO! It's all I can do. Can someone help answer my question?

There is a contract with the bail bond company which must be reviewed to determine the obligations. After the case is complete, the company is nervous about payment because they lose their leverage over you. Ed Dimon
