QUESTION

Do I have to pay my deceased fathers loan?

Asked on Aug 19th, 2014 on General Practice - California
More details to this question:
My uncle loaned my dad money and they both signed a noterized letter agreeing that my dad would pay my uncle in full by 3/2011 and my dad passed away in 8/2011. My uncle is now coming after me for the money that supposedly would have already been paid off. Do I have to pay my uncle anything?

You would not have a personal obligation to pay the debt, but it is possible that your uncle has a claim against your father's estate.  Has your uncle actually filed a lawsuit against you? Were you the administrator of your father's estate? Thanks,Jon
