I was at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, CT, from October 1, 2022, to November 1, 2022. My doctors pronounced me ready to leave the previous Friday to go to rehab. But they didn't transfer me until the following Tuesday morning. According to St. Mary's billing, my insurance ran out after five days, and the total cost of hospitalization is about $1,000 a day, leaving me with an extra bill of about $2,000. At the time of my hospital visit, the hospital did not explain the cost of staying the additional days and did not give me the option of staying at home for those days. When I talked with St. Mary's billing, the best they could offer was a payment plan of $396.33 a month. I explained that I couldn't afford it - they didn't care. I was able to afford one payment and am running out of money. I don't think I should be responsible for the extra $2,000 because the extra days were not medically indicated.
Did you ask if they can provide "Hospital Bed Funds". This is a program that applies to financial needs cases. There are other possible resolutions available to you as well. I would be happy to discuss them further. My firm focuses on debt negotiation and bankruptcy. Max - 203.870.6700
