QUESTION

Ethics violation?

Asked on Oct 21st, 2016 on General Practice - New York
More details to this question:
I work for an attorney who recently dumped 16 boxes of personal and financial info on one particular client. I inquired about how he got it shredded; he admitted he just dumped it. When I told him that was the wrong thing to do, he said "that's why I did it." He hates the client and feels justified. As a former victim of identity theft I find this inexcusable. Am I legally bound to report him?

You are not legally bound to report anything.  Only a lawyer has an ethical obligation to report other lawyers.  However, while such disposal is not the best idea, I do not think it is unethical.
