QUESTION

(NJ) Airsoft laws and permits?

Asked on Oct 31st, 2016 on General Practice - New Jersey
More details to this question:
So I am 16 years old, I grew up in Georgia where you can walk into a Walmart or Target and buy airsoft guns in the toy isles. And now I'm in New Jersey where it is unlawful to own them apparently? So I was talking to my friends about it and they're all interested and want to play airsoft which is becoming a popular sport now. So what are the laws on airsoft? Is it legal? How old to get an airsoft permit and where can we play? (All the airsoft fields in NJ are super far from me so I want to play locally, even if it is just in the woods) p.s I didn't know what the legal topic would be because there is no option for firearms or anything related to airsoft so I put it under general practices.

It is my understanding that owning or using or carrying an Airsoft gun is the same as a regular firearm and requires the same licensing.  If you are eligible for a gun permit, then you are eligible for an Airsoft permit.  see  statute 2C:39-5(f).
