Obtaining date of death for ex-husband

I cannot obtain a death certificate for my ex husband. My daughter has died and I need date of death for him. The family did not tell us he was deceased until some to after. I have no contact with them. Can a lawyer obtain a death certificate for someone?

You should be able to either go to the town in which he lived at the time of deaht, or obtain the death certificate on line. You can also obtain the date of death from looking at the Social Security Death Index, and even doing an internet search to see if the family used a local funeral home.
